The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has sought custodial orders against Hudeife Mohammed Mire, a United States national wanted in connection with a murder case in Minnesota.
According to court documents, Mire is under investigation for third-degree murder following the death of Samantha Myers on April 16, 2022. He is alleged to have sold the victim drugs laced with deadly fentanyl, leading to her fatal overdose.
The suspect was arrested on October 29, 2025, in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, and booked at Gigiri Police Station under OB number 50/29/10/2025 at 8:00 p.m. He is wanted in the U.S. pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, in Case No. 22-MJ-541(TNL), dated July 5, 2022.
The DPP told the court that Mire fled the State of Minnesota and travelled to Kenya to evade arrest and prosecution, an act constituting an extraditable offence under Kenyan law. The prosecution further noted that the alleged offence meets the dual criminality requirement under Section 4 of the Extradition (Contiguous and Foreign Countries) Act, Cap 76.
Kenya, being a member of INTERPOL, is bound by its international obligations to locate and detain fugitives upon issuance of a valid red notice or request from competent authorities. The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Nairobi received a formal request from INTERPOL Washington and the U.S. Department of Justice for Mire’s provisional arrest pending extradition.
The DPP submitted that Mire is a flight risk who may interfere with ongoing investigations or abscond if released. The prosecution therefore prayed that he be detained at Gigiri Police Station pending the commencement of extradition proceedings.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ordered that the respondent be held in police custody for 21 days, with the matter set for mention on November 21, 2025, for further directions.
