Four police officers detained over colleague’s shooting in Naivasha
Naivasha Chief Magistrate Abdulqadir Lorot has ordered four police officers from Mai Mahiu Police Station to be detained at Naivasha Police Station pending investigations into the fatal shooting of their colleague.
The four officers ,Jimmy Muriithi, Emanuel Sang, Anthony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter ,were arrested by DCI officers on October 29,2025,following the death of Hassan Lolkidid. They were presented before the Naivasha Law Courts, where investigators sought 21 days to detain them as inquiries continue.
In an application before the court, Corporal Peter Orwa told the magistrate that the four officers were on duty with the deceased at Msikiti area in Mai Mahiu Township, Naivasha Sub-county, when he was fatally shot in the chest by unknown persons.
According to the investigating officer, the incident occurred when the officers encountered a lorry , registration number KDU 613G, an Isuzu ,being offloaded with tyres and hardware woods. When the officers challenged the loaders, they fled, and gunshots were heard shortly after, leaving the deceased shot in the chest.
The court heard that the four officers were armed with pistols issued to them as recorded in the arms movement register.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly tampered with the crime scene to mislead investigators by placing a firearm in the deceased’s hand to suggest he had shot himself.
Corporal Orwa requested the court to grant 21 days for the officers to remain in custody to allow for a postmortem examination, ballistic and forensic analysis, and the recording of witness statements.
However, defence lawyer Danstan Omari opposed the application, arguing that his clients were police officers with known residences and were willing to cooperate with investigators and comply with any court directions.
The matter will be mentioned on November 11, 2025, for further directions.
