The Milimani Law Court has granted the investigating officer in the case against 26-year-old Meru University dropout, Seth Mwabe Okwanyo, six more weeks to complete investigations into an alleged cyber fraud involving a betting company.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the investigating officer (IO) requested more time, citing the need to finalize ongoing investigations into the alleged siphoning of Ksh 11,410,165 from a betting firm.
The prosecution supported the IO’s application, urging the court to allow the extension, noting that the suspect is currently out on bail.
However, Mwabe’s legal team strongly opposed the State’s request, arguing that the prosecution has been making repeated applications for extensions instead of concluding investigations within the time previously granted by the court.
The defence further urged the court to close the miscellaneous application file, arguing that the IO was introducing new requests that should have been made before the lapse of the earlier timelines set for investigations.
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Ekhubi allowed the prosecution’s application, granting six additional weeks for the completion of investigations.
The matter was adjourned to December 4, 2025, for a mention and for the investigating officer to present a progress report before the court gives further directions.
