Director General Evelyn Cheruget receives the East Africa Public Sector Leadership Award during the Easy Africa Superwoman Awards 2026.

 

The Easy Africa Superwoman Awards were held under the theme “Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Leading Ahead,” bringing together distinguished women leaders from across various sectors to celebrate excellence, resilience, inclusivity, and transformative leadership.

The event honoured women who continue to break barriers in leadership, inspire positive change, and champion progress in their respective fields while paving the way for future generations of women and girls.

Leaders from government, business, education, civil society, and community organizations used the platform to highlight the growing role of women in shaping society through innovation, service, mentorship, and empowerment initiatives.

Among those recognized was the Director General Evelyn Cheruget of Immigration,For emerging the Champion in Public Sector Leadership in East Africa of the Year 2026.

Cheruget dedicated her award to the hardworking officers and staff within the Immigration Department, saying the recognition was not just personal but a reflection of the department’s collective commitment to public service.

She commended immigration officers for their dedication, professionalism, resilience, and patriotism in safeguarding national security, managing borders, and facilitating movement and efficient service delivery across the country.

The Director General noted that the recognition should serve as motivation for women in leadership to continue pushing boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and creating opportunities for others to rise.

Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of empowering more women to take up leadership positions, noting that breaking the glass ceiling requires courage, consistency, determination, and support systems that uplift women at every stage of their journey.

Education emerged as one of the key topics during the discussions, with participants stressing the need to invest in girls’ education and mentorship programs to prepare young women for leadership roles and economic empowerment.

The role of women in business was also highlighted, with speakers applauding female entrepreneurs and professionals who continue to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and contribute to national development despite facing various challenges in the corporate and business world.

The forum further underscored the importance of women empowering women through mentorship, networking, advocacy, and creating spaces that encourage collaboration instead of competition.
