Two employees of Equity Bank Kenya Limited have been charged before a Nairobi court with conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing by servant.

Elijah Ndung’u Gachanja and Kevin Omato Manwa appeared before Milimani Law Courts on Monday, November 10, 2025, before principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi where they denied the charges.

According to the charge sheet, the two are accused of conspiring to steal Ksh 4 million, the property of Equity Bank Kenya Limited, on or before November 3, 2025.

The prosecution stated that the alleged offence occurred while the accused were working as a relationship officer and customer service representative, respectively, at the bank’s Githurai branch.

The prosecution told the court that the complaint was made on November 7, 2025 which was when the accused persons were arrested.

Through their lawyer, the accused persons prayed to be released on lenient cash bail, arguing that they have fixed abodes therefore are not a flight risk.

The defence further claimed that the two were arrested on November 6 and were not presented before the court within the required 24 hours, terming it a violation of their constitutional rights.

The defence also emphasized that the charge sheet contains allegations, and the accused should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Ndombi ruled that each accused be released on a bond of Ksh 1 million with asurity of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh 400,000, with one contact person.

The accused will be remanded at the Industrial Area Remand Prison pending the processing of their bond terms.

The case will be mentioned on November 20, 2025, for further court directions.
