Police officer Klinzy Barasa, accused of murdering a mask vendor during the June 25, 2025 protests, has been denied bail again by the High Court.

Justice Margaret Muigai on November 4,2025,ruled that the accused will remain in custody pending the determination of his bail application.

The judge noted that all parties had filed their submissions and the court would give further directions after reviewing the material presented.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), filed its submissions on bail and bond dated September 16, 2025.

The victims’ counsel also filed their submissions on October 20, 2025, and were directed by the court to avail physical copies through the deputy registrar.

The accused, in a replying affidavit opposing the prosecution’s objection to bail dated August 15, 2025, maintained his request for release pending trial.

His lawyers cited a digest of authorities filed on September 10, 2025, in support of his application.

A pre-bail report was also filed on November 3, 2025, and the matter will be mentioned on November 13 for further directions.

Barasa is charged with the murder of Boniface Kariuki, a mask vendor who was allegedly shot in the head during the anti-government protests in Nairobi. Kariuki later succumbed to his injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Klinzy has since pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and remains in custody at the Industrial Area Remand Priso
