A Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court sentenced a police officer to 5 years in prison after he was convicted for an offence of bribery.
This after the trial court found corporal Julius Onyango Ouma was found guilty of demanding ksh 1 million to discharge a Chinese of an offence.
He was also found liable for concealing treated Sh200,000 he had received as a bribe from EACC detectives.nd
In alternative to the 5 yera custodial sentence the convict was directed to deposit ksh 1.9 million
His colleague Charles Macharia Wanjiru was also found guilty of obstructing and being violent the scene where corporal Oguma received a bribe at Kabete police station and was handed a one yea jail term or fine ksh 400000
The sentencing by trial MagistrateThomas Nzioka,follows a protracted submission by the probation officer and mitigation by their defence lawyer Danstan Omari, who pleaded with court to consider lenient sentence to his clients whom he said are the sole breadwinner to their families.
Omari also submitted that first convict had underlying health complications and that it was in order for court to consider a none custodial sentence.
