Employment and labour relations court stops KRA board from recruiting deputy commissioners
Justice Byram Ongaya as today issued temporary orders suspending the ongoing recruitment by the KRA board of directors
to fill eight vacancies of deputy commissioners of Trade facilitation,Risk management, Revenue and regional coordination, Information communication and technology, Human resources, East and south of Nairobi- tax service office, Supply chain management and Regional coordinator- southern region
The court gave the orders after senator Okiya omtatah moved to employment and labour relations court through a certificate of urgency saying that the KRA board had no mandate to engage in the appointment of the commissioners.
The senator says that the board having engaged in the appointment of commissioner general KRA cannot be allowed to appoint heads of departments in the authorities.
Omtatah further argues that the board is now directly involved in the day to day running of the authority giving rise to the obvious conflict of interest which arises when the board meddles in the daily operations of the authority.
