A Nairobi court has released a Year-old woman accused of defrauding businesswoman Agnes Kagure Kariuki of a land parcel valued at Sh200 million.
Ruth Wambui Kimani was freed on a bond of Sh 1 million, or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000.
Chief Magistrate Rose Ndombi ruled that her application for lenient terms was justified.
Wambui faces two charges conspiracy to defraud and making a false document.
Prosecutors say she, together with another person not in court, allegedly tried to defraud Kagure of a 0.3252-hectare land parcel along Jogoo Road in Nairobi.
She is also accused of forging a national ID in the name of Francis Kimani Mungai, claiming it was genuine.
Her lawyer told the court that Wambui is the administrator of her late husband’s estate, which includes the disputed property.
She has also filed a case in the Environment and Land Court seeking cancellation of the title deed in favor of the complainant.
The defense added that she suffers from diabetes and hypertension and is not a flight risk.
The prosecution, however, opposed lenient bail, saying the estate matter is separate from the criminal case.
They argued the complainant lost property worth Sh200 million.
The matter will be mentioned on December 8, for pre trial purposes.
