The ruling in a case where Michael Macharia Njiri, popularly known as DJ Brownskin, is accused of aiding his wife’s suicide has been postponed to January 2026.
On Thursday December 4,2025, presiding magistrate Caroline Nyaguthii informed the parties that the ruling was not ready.
“The ruling is not read, come back for the ruling on January 22, 2026,” the court directed.
Macharia was charged in June 2024 with aiding the suicide of his wife, Sharon Njeri Mwangi, who died after ingesting poison. He is accused of watching her take the substance without intervening.
He also faces a second charge of destroying evidence from his phone on June 1, 2023, allegedly knowing that the material would be required in judicial proceedings. A viral video had captured the DJ watching as Sharon consumed the poison.
In April, Sharon’s brother Benson Irungu testified before trial court, stating that although his sister was sometimes violent, Macharia had a duty to stop her from harming herself.
“When you see someone wants to harm themselves, you must try and stop them. Macharia should have taken the poison off her hands,” he told the court.
Irungu’s wife, Catherine, also testified that she believed Macharia encouraged Sharon to proceed with the act. She said that in the video clip, he was heard saying, “Mix them, gather them,” which she interpreted as incitement.
The matter will be mentioned again on January 22, 2026, for the delivery of the ruling.
