An Egyptian national charged for obtaingshs19.5 m by falsely pretending she will supply 1000 metric tonnes of brown sugar

An Egyptian  Chief Executive Officer has been  charged  for obtaining  money  by false pretence.
Anah Salah Abdel Fatah Salama,the CEO  of Enhanced Trade and Shipping company. allegedly  obtained  19,500, 000 from kenyan businessman Mwangi by purporting  that he she was in a position  to supply  her with 1000 metric tones of brown  sugar.
According  to the prosecution, the complainant  Mary Mwangi, upon the agreement  with the accused  person, wired the agreed  amount  to the Egyptian  Bank .
However,no consignment  of the agreed  brown  sugar was delivered.
Anah pleaded  not guilty  to the charge  and was admitted  to Ksh 600000 and  two contact  person s as bond term by the Senior Principal Magistrate  Lucas  Onyina.
The magistrate  further directed accused  to  surrender  her passport  to the prosecution  since she is of foreign national.
Early  defence  lawyer  Danstan Omari  pleaded  with the court to release  her client  on lenient  bond terms, citing that the figures  on the charge  sheet  were mere allegations.
Omari told  the court that there was ongoing  discussion  between his client  and complainant on how  to settle  the matter.
The case will  be mentioned   on 6th December  2023 for pretrial.
